SHAWN NYE TAKES TOP HONORS AT LAKE ERIE SPEEDWAY
North East PA June 10th 2017– The NYPA Midget Association stormed south for their anticipated appearance at the Lake Erie Speedway in Pennsylvania with the returning support of Bonnell’s Collision Center and Rod Shop in Erie PA. Shawn Nye passed and held off Dave Wollaber, who came into the race riding high on two consecutive wins at Holland International Speedway. With Nye and Wollaber securing the top two podium positions the rest of the top five were Bobby Holmes, Erik Musto, and AJ Hessler with the place finish.
In heat one Tommy Catalano, Shawn Nye, and Kyle Hutchinson had an incredible three way battle for first place. At the drop of the green the 98 and 88 dueled side by side until the 66 of Andrew Nye went up in smoke bringing out the caution flag. After the restart Nye joined the fight and the crowd was thrilled by some of the most intense wheel to wheel action of the day. Unfortunately the 88 of Hutchinson broke down and was forced to retire until feature time. Nye took the win. Heat two went caution free with Dave Wollaber winning and Jamie Pew making his return after a frightening practice crash at Holland Speedway.
Eighteen TQ Midgets signed in and sixteen took the green flag at Lake Erie Speedway. 2016 NYPA champion Dave Wollaber and Shawn Nye battled the entire race with Nye edging out the 1 car. Nye’s car was brand new and built from scratch. Since starting out in TQs in 2013 Nye has proven to be a threat to win any time he races. “It was awesome! That was a long race and my arms are killing me,” Nye exclaimed in victory lane for his first NYPA TQ midget win of the season.
