DAVE WOLLABER TAKES THE WIN, KYLE HUTCHINSON TAKES THE NYPA MIDGET ASSOCIATION CROWN AT LANCASTER NATIONAL SPEEDWAY

LANCASTER NY September 9th 2017 – The NYPA Midget Association closed out the championship on Saturday night under the lights at Lancaster National Speedway. Lancaster’s quarter mile inner oval set the stage for a fitting final duel between Kyle Hutchinson and the now two-time Holland Speedway track champion Dave Wollaber. Hutchinson and Wollaber traded victories all year long and they kept the fight going until the last lap of the regular season, with Wollaber coming out on top. Bobby Holmes, Brandon Zavarella, and Vinnie Christiano rounded out the top five.

Impressive young gun Erik Musto came into the night within range of knocking Hutchinson off the top rung but needed to finish at least seven positions ahead of “Hutch”. The 6 car started the night off well with a win in the first heat. Then during the feature Musto battled in the top 10 but rival Kyle Hutchinson maintained a commanding distance ahead of him throughout.

The number 91 car of Brandon Zavarella won the second heat of the night. Zavarella kept the car up front all night and finished fourth in the 20 lap feature and will likely contend for a win at the US Open.

Twenty-one TQ midgets signed in but only twenty took the green flag. During practice sophomore driver Jamie Pew once again escaped injury after flipping his TQ midget. Many will remember his frightening crash at Holland to start the season. Unfortunately the 05 was not able to continue with the evening’s races. The Pew Racing team hopes to have the twisted car back in action in time for the US Open.

Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget series driver Ryan Fraser made an appearance, possibly tuning up for the US Open, and very well may be a threat as he brought home a 6th place finish.

Even though the points have been tallied and the champions crowned, the NYPA Midget Association has one more race left. Winning any race at the US Open at Lancaster National Speedway comes with a lot of prestige and the TQ midget winner is no exception. We’ll see you all September 23rd to find out who will take the US Open checkered in 2017!
