Hutchinson Outduels Wollaber At Hillside

Holland, New York, August 4th, 2018- Kyle Hutchinson took another feature victory at the Track at Hillside in the Jerry Gradl Motors NYPA Midget Association, holding off Dave Wollaber in order to do so. After a caution set the stage for a white-knuckle dash to the checkered flag, Wollaber tried to repeat his winning move from last week multiple times as soon as he got to the bumper of Hutchinson. This time, Wollaber couldn’t make the move stick, and settled for second when the checkers fell.

With Vinnie Christiano III starting in the pole position, the feature started with Hutchinson powering into the lead on the high side around the racetrack. As Hutchinson pulled ahead, Wollaber drove his way to third place when he found himself battling a defiant Andy Nye for second. As Wollaber drove low to make a pass, Nye would get the better of him for a lap before he finally gained the upper hand on the inside, powering past Nye as they roared out of turn four.

Hutchinson was ahead to a healthy lead, but a spin by Tim Nies with fourteen laps to go brought out the only caution of the race, eliminating Hutchinson’s cushion. When the green flag fell, Hutchinson had his work cut out for him with Wollaber in position to challenge for the lead. The crowd at Hillside were treated to a battle between two relentless TQ racers as Wollaber began to pressure Hutchinson. On the defensive, Hutchinson continued to hold his line, with the two drivers almost making contact as neither of them were willing to back down. Hutchinson’s defense prevailed as he held on for another Jerry Gradl Motors NYPA Midget Association feature win.

With August 11th being the 3rd Annual Jerry Gradl Memorial Mini Indy 50, a win in the preceding race could build momentum going into the longest race on the Jerry Gradl Motors NYPA Midget Association schedule this weekend. Hutchinson has been dominant at Hillside in the TQ division this season, and a win at the Jerry Gradl Memorial Mini Indy 50 will add on to an already impressive tally so far.

In addition to the 50 lap Jerry Gradl Motors NYPA Midget Association feature, the Race of Champions Late Models will visit Hillside, along with the regular Street Stock 4’s, Sportsman Modifieds, and Crazy 8’s. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for seniors 65 and older, and $1 for members of the military. Gates open at 3 PM, heats begin at 4, and features will follow after the heat races. Make sure to come out this weekend to celebrate the life of one of the most influential men in Western New York short track racing!
