Wollaber Takes Hillside Win With Late Race Pass

Wollaber Takes Hillside Win With Late Race Pass

Holland, New York, July 28th, 2018- Dave Wollaber scored his second Jerry Gradl Motors
NYPA Midget Association feature win of the year last Saturday night at the Track at Hillside in a
caution-free feature race. Wollaber had chased Kyle Hutchinson through the field throughout the
run, slowly reeling him in once they made it to the front. Making a move to the inside line during
the penultimate lap, Wollaber and Hutchinson would run the final laps slugging it out corner after
corner keeping everyone on the edge of their seats right up to the last lap!

Andy Jankowiak, piloting the 01 TQ midget, was the fastest car in practice, and hoped to pull off
a second win at the Track at Hillside. However, the heat races would foreshadow an eventual
race win by Wollaber, who battled past Jankowiak to win the first heat. Kyle Hutchinson won the second heat in dominant fashion after making quick work of his opposition.

The feature started in exciting fashion, as Hutchinson moved to the outside to take over fourth
on the first lap with Wollaber following him through the chaos. Hutchinson took the lead a couple of laps later with a considerable lead over Wollaber. The top two began to pull away from
Jankowiak, who comfortably held onto third ahead of Erik Musto and Vinnie Christiano.

The race continued with the top three spread out, but Wollaber began to gain ground on
Hutchinson, who looked to have a dominant enough pace to challenge for the win. With the laps
winding down, it still remained unclear whether or not Wollaber could gain the ground needed
under green flag conditions. Passing on the higbanks can be a challenge, with drivers in
previous races having a tough time getting their TQ midgets to stick on the inside. Oftentimes
drivers can make up positions on restarts, but since all 25 laps of the feature were under green,
passes had to be completed when and if the opportunity presented itself.

Nothing fazed Wollaber, who for the last few laps pressured Hutchinson, and courageously
drove his TQ midget to the bottom of the track. At the past few races at the Track at Hillside, the
driver to the outside would usually prevail, but Wollaber pressed the attack. Wollaber would
drive in almost completing the pass, Hutchinson would fight back, at one point slight contact
was made almost wrecking them both. Wollaber’s brave drive earned him his second win of the
season, with Hutchinson, Jankowiak, Christiano, and Musto rounding out the top five.

“I was beating him in (turns) one and two,” Wollaber recalled in victory lane, “The car stuck, and
I didn’t see (Hutchinson) going low. I was going to protect the bottom from thereon out… but I
was able to hold him off.”

Surrounded by friends and family in victory lane, Wollaber and everyone in victory lane turned to
the track photographers with grins almost as wide as the Track at Hillside. Scoring his second
feature win of the year, Wollaber’s confidence in performing well in the upcoming Jerry Gradl
Mini Indy 50 on August 11th as grown. Until then, Wollaber will be the driver to watch at next
week’s Jerry Gradl NYPA Midget Association feature at the Track at Hillside.

Racing returns to the Track at Hillside next week, where the Jerry Gradl NYPA TQ Midget
Association will run a 25 lap feature before the George Decker Memorial Sportsman 75. Tickets
