Hutchinson’s Dominates At Hillside

Hutchinson’s Dominates At Hillside

Holland, New York, July 13th, 2018– Rebounding from a DNF last week at Lancaster, Kyle Hutchinson took home the win at the Track at Hillside last Friday night after a caution-free race. Taking the lead early, Hutchinson may have lead the most laps, but that isn’t to say he didn’t have to work for it. With points leader Dave Wollaber in hot pursuit, Hutchinson was able navigate lap traffic, and found a way to use the slower cars to keep Wollaber at bay.

In Heat 1 a slow start by leader Cameron Ruggiero gave outside pole sitter Jamie Pew the break he needed to jump into the lead as the field stacked up behind him. The stackup didn’t bother Hutchinson at all, who cut through traffic to take the lead and in the end the win. In the second heat, Shawn Nye took the win after a tight battle with Vinnie Christiano, including a bold three-wide pass for the lead. However, he would have to make a more traditional move to the outside to take the lead a lap later, holding off Christiano for the heat win.

The excitement continued into the feature starting with a four-wide battle in turn one at the drop of the green flag. The caution was quickly thrown due to a jumped start, necessitating another attempt. In the middle of the chaos Shawn Nye had stopped his car on the racing surface as the caution came out, and did not continue the race.

With the field reset, Hutchinson quickly moved into the lead, with Wollaber in tow. Eager to score back-to-back wins, Wollaber immediately went on the offensive, diving to the inside multiple times in an effort to take the lead. The two drivers proved that they were the class of the field by pulling away from the rest of the pack, however, they quickly encountered lap traffic. Wollaber continued to try the inside lane to pass, but with lap cars occupying the bottom, passing would have to wait until the pair made it through the slower cars. Despite keeping close distance, Wollaber was unable to make another serious attempt at the lead, and would take the runner up position behind Hutchinson.
